Week 12-

The last time I updated my iPhone, it changes the way my music was catalogued and stored. Unless I turned it off, all my music was merged with Apple Music. This means that I now had access to every song on iTunes for streaming, which turns out is quite limiting. I now have much more trouble getting and organizing music from outside sources into my iTunes. This seemed like the perfect example of limiting software. Apple specializes in this, they claim their programs are easy to use and completely compatible with all their other projects. But they forget to mention that their software is excruciating painful to sync up with any product not created by Apple and is only so easy because it gives you no options and certainly no wiggle room. They want to control every aspect of your technological experience: from your phone to your tv to your computer. Apple represents one of the contrasting impulses the Internet was created on, unfortunately it’s the one that’s winning. They believe all information is valuable and needs to be paid for, from music to texts to everything in between. The problem with this though is that in order to force this view upon everyone else: they have to control the entire system and have complete vertical integration. How ever would they convince the American people this is a good thing? Release the iPhone in pink, that should do the trick.
